What’s In My Gym Bag?

Whenever I start talking about my new found love for the gym, the conversation always leads to people asking what’s in my gym bag! If you’re curious about it too, then keep on reading!

Gym Bag

Every gym enthusiast needs a place to keep all of their go to gym essentials. If you don’t already have a gym bag, then you can find an inexpensive one on Amazon.com or at Ross Dress For Less.

They have a plethora of cute options with a wide range of colors. You can opt for duffel style, or for the cute 90’s backpack type of gym bag. Go with whatever complements your fitness style!

As you can see, my gym back is by FILA. It has two of my favorite colors in it: black and neon green. I love the bag because it’s very sturdy and stands up to all of my abuse. In my morning rush, so much ends up getting thrown into my gym bag: breakfast, clothes, my makeup bag.

My gym bag is full of pockets and meshing. This is great because it allows for adequate air flow throughout the bag. It even has a separate pocket for me to store a pair of shoes. So, it’s no problem for me to go from my work heels to my gym shoes.


Headphones

I’m so dependent on my headphones that I will go all the way back home if I end up at the gym without them. Silly, right?

For whatever reason, I can not go to the gym without a pair of headphones. I have a pair of Bluetooth LG headphones that I absolutely swear by. They are virtually weightless while I’m working out.

Headphones are a great distraction, especially when you’re not particularly motivated to work out. As soon as I turn on my headphones, it takes my mind to an entirely different place. It’s almost like I’m in a trance.


Fitness Swimsuit

If I plan on swimming that day, I make sure to bring a fitness swimsuit with me. A one piece swimsuit–because uhh, she got a donk! Speedo has the most comfortable swimwear in my opinion. We definitely don’t need all of that being exposed to virgin eyes in the gym.

I have so many swimsuits, it’s ridiculous. So, it’s nothing to leave a spare suit in my gym bag for whenever I need to grab and go. I also make sure to pack my FILA slides for walking to and from the pool area.


Towel

Having a towel while you’re at the gym is vital for several reasons. Mostly because sweat an germs… Additionally, it serves as a show of courtesy to your fellow gym members.

In my fitness group, I hear so many people ranting about others not bringing a towel with them to the gym. It’s a serious thing guys!

It’s best to use a towel with discernible sides. One side for the part that will touch dirty gym equipment, while the other will only touch surfaces of your skin.

Nobody wants to get on a piece of gym equipment that’s still full of fresh dew from the last person’s sweat. Take advantage of your gym’s towel service if they offer it.

Plus, it’s always nice to have a towel if you’re using the sauna!


Deodorant

Okay, this item doesn’t require a big description. Deodorant is deodorant… Bring some! I personally use Arm & Hammer deodorant. The brand claims to use all natural deodorizer ingredients, so the green in me loves that.

Resistance Bands

I recently ordered some resistance bands from Amazon. These are typically used to increase intensity in a workout. They are great for toning my legs.

You can find resistance bands online for cheap. Also, you can take them virtually anywhere. I take mine with me to work and use them at my desk during the day.


Ankle Straps

Ankle straps have helped with toning my glutes so well! I get so many compliments on my legs and butt. I purchased my straps online at Amazon. I use these straps for my workouts on the dual pulley machine.

Water Bottle

Another essential at the gym is a means to drink water. It’s a hassle to walk back and forth to the water fountain, so I typically try to bring a water bottle with me for every workout.

My preferred brand is the blender bottle. It doubles as a cup for both water and my protein shakes. It comes with a metal contraption that helps with blending any supplemental powders that you may be incorporating.

Pre-workout

You can’t talk about supplemental powders without mentioning pre-workout. Pre-workout is one of my must have gym items, especially if I workout in the morning.

C4 is my preferred blend. It gives me the boost I need to wake up and get to the gym. I take the pre-workout about 20 minutes before my workout. It has me floating across the gym for the duration of my workout.

I noticed that I can do a longer, more intense workout when I take C4. A more intense workout means greater gains, so I’m here for that.

Curious about how to lose weight fast? Is it even possible? It definitely is–I know, because I managed to do it. I planned a last-minute trip and had to drop 15 pounds quick!

Drink More Water to Lose Weight Fast

If you’re trying to lose weight fast, you have to consume more water. Make it a point to kick soda and other sugary drinks out of your diet.

You should be drinking at least 6 to 8 glasses of water a day. If you struggle with drinking water, then try to find alternatives that best suite your taste buds.

Green tea is great. It offers a burst of energy and has way less sugar than your loaded iced coffees.

I struggled with this tip when I first started my weight loss journey. However, if you must have coffee, try to drink it black. Black coffee packs a strong punch without all of the empty calories.

Lately, I’ve also been enjoying the powder packs that you can add to your bottled water. They come in all types of flavors. Opt for low sugar and low-calorie mix-ins for optimal weight loss!

Do Away With Milk

I’ve never been a big fan of milk. I used to drink it as a child, but I’m really not big on it now. If there are other breakfast options, then I’m most likely going to avoid any involving milk.

If you’re trying to lose weight fast, go with an alternative like goat’s milk, or nut milk. There are so many milk alternatives these days, it’s crazy.

They have almond milk, coconut milk, rice milk, and even soy milk. There are literally all types of milk to suit whatever dietary constraints you may have. I mean, seriously… The other day, I saw something labeled oat milk.

All of these are great milk alternatives. They have less sugar and calories, but still, have a similar consistency to milk.

Consume More Lean Protein for Weight Loss

The hardest part of this transition for me has definitely been the dieting. I love food–all kinds of foods! It’s so hard to say no to a plate that’s right in front of me. In order to lose weight quickly, I had to make some difficult dietary changes. I had to learn to say no and push the plate away.

My best advice is to make it a point to only buy healthy foods. By buying healthy foods, you will be forced to eat just that. In an interview with HuffPost, nutritional biochemist, Shawn M. Talbott, Ph.D., states that weight loss is mostly about dieting.


“As a rule of thumb, weight loss is generally 75 percent diet and 25 percent exercise. An analysis of more than 700 weight loss studies found that people see the biggest short-term results when they eat smart. ” – Shawn M. Talbott, Ph.D.

Lean protein consumption is a must for fast weight loss. If you are serious about losing weight, you have to keep this in the forefront of your mind. This means eating lots of vegetables, low sugar fruit, and lean meats.

Get used to eating salads, lean beef, turkey, chicken, eggs, and fish! If you get tired of this, tofu and other soy foods are always an option. Try to keep a bag of nuts around you for snacks in between meals.

Avoid Foods That Are High in Starch

For faster weight loss, avoid foods that have lots of starch. This includes avoiding potatoes, pasta, rice, cereal, crackers, bread, and trans fats. It’s tough to make this change, but the results that you will begin to see will only motivate you even more.

When I stopped eating starchy foods, I noticed less inflammation. My stomach seemed to instantly flatten. My face looked skinnier. I even had less acne. All of this because of a simple reduction in starch consumption. Okay, this is a change that I can deal with.

Commit to Your Weight Loss

To lose weight fast, make a commitment to your fitness. Join a gym if funds allow you to do so. The gym is basically a community in itself. Once you get into a routine of going, you’ll start to connect with more like-minded people.

There are plenty of Youtube videos that you can watch to fulfill an at home workout regimen. My favorite fitness Youtuber is Annabelle Hayes. She blogs and makes videos showing you what to eat and what workouts to do to drop weight quickly.

Another way to really commit to your weight loss is by joining a supportive community. I’m in several Facebook groups myself. We often share pictures of our progress and details on how we are meeting our goals.

You can also try joining a Meetup group or a fitness boot camp. There are even apps that assist with dieting and weight loss. There are many types of communities out there. Ultimately, it’s great to see what others are doing to achieve maximal fitness.

Reward Yourself for Weight Loss

Set goals for yourself. Once you meet a goal, treat yourself to a new fitness perk. It can be anything from new shoes to an infrared sauna treatment, to new workout clothes, or even a new water bottle.

The possibilities are endless when you are treating yourself. Accordingly, you will start to meet goals more consistently.

I Tried An Infrared Sauna in Houston

Houston has a new Infrared Sauna Spa! I was eager to give it a try and see what it was all about. If anyone is skeptical about any and everything, it’s me!

I had to get first hand details on this place. Read on more to hear my experience with the session.

I was recently invited out to a local infrared sauna in Houston, called The ShapeRoom. At first I was really skeptical because I’d never heard of anything like it before. I mean, this is the day and age of scams and quick fixes–so it was only right for me to be apprehensive.

The spa rests almost hidden in a low traffic area of Houston’s River Oaks District. The moment that I stepped into the sauna spa, I felt a sense of calm overcoming me. The ambiance was so tranquil, from the lighting, to the aroma, to the energy and the owner’s pleasant personality.

Elaina, the manager, gave me a tour of the infrared sauna spa and explained to me the process and benefits of the infrared body wrap. At this point, I felt reassured and ready to try it out!

My session started off with a a dry brushing over my torso. This exfoliates the skin, increases collagen production, and improves vascular blood circulation to the surface of the skin. This process helps diminish the appearance of cellulite.

After this, she applied her proprietary firming gel (ShapeUp). The gel firms and burns fat. Yes, you can go in and purchase a bottle for use in your home. She recommended using the gel under a sweat belt, waist trainer, faja or girdle for increased results.

She wrapped me up and then placed me in the infrared sauna bed. My skin felt very cool at first, but it quickly started to warm up. After all of that, I was ready to go under!

It’s difficult to describe what I felt mentally. If you meditate, then you know the feeling… absolute clarity. I can definitely see myself coming here weekly. I think it’s also worthy to note that I lost 3 lbs.

Lose Belly Fat Quick With Hourglass Angel Waist Trainer

Everyone is always searching for a quick fix when it comes to wanting to lose belly fat quick and getting that hourglass frame.

Let’s get real–there is no quick fix. Most of the transformations that we see on social media took lots of time and effort–or surgery. No shade, if I could afford it I’d do it too!

I’ve seen everything from teas that promise to make your tummy tinier, creams that instantly reduce water weight, clothes that slim. So, naturally I wanted to give waist training a solid go around.

You can’t knock it until you try it, right… I mean, look at Kim’s waist! If that’s not an hourglass, then I don’t know what is.

I was recently sent a waist trainer by Hourglass Angel. They are an online vendor that offers a wide range of bras, panties, and an assortment of various types of shape-wear.

I even saw some shape-wear for men. What?! Yasss… Everybody is out here trying to live their best life! I’m not even mad.

What size should I get?

I ordered my waist trainer not knowing exactly what size to get. I didn’t have any tape to get accurate measurements, but I made a sizing guess based off of my bra size which is a 36.

When I received the product, it was a bit tight. But, after a few uses that wasn’t much of an issue… not because it stretched, but because I was actually shedding pounds fairly quickly.

The quality of the waist trainer is very impressive. I’ve seen these in stores at a lower price point. However, those looked very flimsy. The Hourglass Angel waist trainer is very well sewn, no lose seams or frays anywhere. The front zipper is very sturdy.

How does wearing a waist trainer feel?

When wearing the Hourglass Angel waist trainer, I feel increased spinal support. My bust seems more lifted. I notice way more sweat in my midsection than I normally do during my workout.

And guess what, my waist line looks snatched to the Gods. I look like a whole hors d’oeuvre when I’m wearing it. I’m not even lying! Heh!

Commit 

Studies by Phillippa Lally show that it takes roughly 66 days for a new behavior to turn into a habit. That’s just over two months. So, if you can commit and stick with the plan for those two months, chances are very likely that you can turn the routine into a strict habit. 

Find Some Accountability

I find that it’s so much more easier to stick with a fitness plan, when I’m apart of some type of accountability systems. Try to get your friends to commit to going to the gym with you. If they won’t, then join a fitness support group.

These days you can literally find support anywhere. Browse Facebook for fitness groups that are relatable to you and your lifestyle. Get on Meetup.com to see what groups are close to your neighborhood and job.

Locate Some Good Inspiration

When I’m working on cutting and I need that little nudge of motivation, I start browsing my Instagram feed. Sometimes I’ll even delve into certain hashtags because I know the content is going to inspire me.

If you need inspiration, scroll through these trending Instagram fitness hashtags: #slimthick #fitnessfreaks #fitnessgoals #summertimefine. You can find all types of information related to fitness. I get ideas for workouts, meal plans, gym attire and more this way.

Ultimately, if you don’t have a plan then you are planning to fail. Consistency is truly key!

Find a Slim Thick Exercise Plan

You can’t talk about slim thick without mentioning exercise. This leads us right into our next tip. 80% of success is showing up. Find the right workout plan and show up for it! 

Hire a Trainer

Hiring a professional is a great way to find your way about the gym. If you’re new to fitness, you can’t be expected to know all of the equipment and how to work. Try out a certified physical trainer. 

A trainer can give you insight on how to efficiently reach your fitness goals. They will go over what machines you need to be using and how often. This is a great way for a newbie to jumpstart their weightloss. 

Do a Home Workout

Let’s be realistic. Sometimes going to the gym every day is not an option. No worries, because there are lots of alternatives.

If you’re resourceful, you can easily find workouts to do in the comfort of your home or even at your place of work right at your desk. I keep two 15 pound dumb bells in my office for days that I know will be too hectic to get to the gym.

I make up exercises depending on which areas I’m working for the day. If I want to do something new, then I’ll typically just search for fitness videos on youtube.

Annabelle Hayes is one of my favorites when it comes to fitness vloggers. She creates instruction videos for both gym and home workouts. 

Whether it’s at the gym or not, try to shoot for at least 45 to 60 minutes of daily physical activity. A little effort each day will have a considerable pay off in the long run.

Incorporate a Slim Thick Diet Plan

If you expect to see weight loss or lean gains for the slim thick look, then just know that you’ll need to make the appropriate changes to your eating habits. This means monitoring both what and how much you eat at each meal.

The My Fitness Pal is a great app to use if you are trying to stay at a specific caloric intake. The app will tell you how many calories you’ve consumed based of what you’ve eaten for the day. It will also help you determine how much you need to work out in order to burn that amount of calories.

Don’t forget that seasonings, dressings, sauces and beverages will add to your caloric intake as well. It all adds up!

Water

Speaking of beverages… All of the frequent exercising can dehydrate you if you’re not taking in adequate amounts of water.

Try to keep a bottle of water within close reach. Yep, this gives you an excuse to purchase a cache of cute tumblers. This will deter you from drinking things that you shouldn’t, like soda.

This will help you meet your daily water intake goal. It is recommended that you consume eight 8 ounce glasses of water per day. Yes, it sounds overwhelming—but think about all of the wonderful ways your body will reward you for your efforts.

If water isn’t exactly your thing, try brewing up a tea or adding a healthy drink mix, like Crystal Light.

Rest Your Body

This new lifestyle will have you feeling amazing! If done right, you can begin to remodel your metabolism. A good balance is of the upmost importance.

It is vital that you give your body the necessary time that it needs for proper recovery. This means, making sure you are rotating the muscle groups that you choose to work out each day.

In addition, make sure you are getting enough sleep at night. Try to get at least 8 hours with each slumber. Without this rest period, your body can not effectively replenish its energy nor can it repair damaged tissues.

Resting is imperative if you want to have a successful fitness regimen. Not only does it allow for adequate muscle recovery but it also will help you prevent injuries.
